OTHER PEOPLE

You see that man and your heart skips. He treats you like a goddess. He goes out of his way for you but when it comes to people he has no reason to be kind to he becomes a monster. He treats the helps like slaves and you tell yourself, ‘it’s because they are just helps’. He treats his family badly and never keeps the promises he made to them and you tell yourself ‘well, maybe they did something to him.’ He never has a kind word to say about his colleagues from work, you see him smile at them before their faces and tears them down behind their backs; he even does same to his friends. You see it all as nothing because he treats you well. He has nothing good to say about his exes and lays the fault at their doors and you say,’ they must have really hurt him.’
  One day you run into an ex of his and without knowing who you are to him, tells you about their relationship,
how badly he treated her and the things he did, how he used her, she also admits her own faults. You ignore this and tell yourself ‘she’s just saying it because he left her.’ You also tell yourself he has changed. Well, people don’t just change. If a partner treats people badly what stops them from doing same to you? He treated his ex worse and used her too but you tell yourself you are not her and he loves you. Hmmmn ,better get ready for that time bomb waiting to blow and God forbid you guys break up or have issues , that’s when you will know. Are you even sure about what he says about you behind your back?
  Ok, maybe you are right and he has changed, he really loves you and you are the best thing in his life but he used to be bad and treated his exes badly, he toyed with their hearts and made them do bad things and then dumped them crudely, one of the exes opens her mouth and curses him or goes to high lengths to punish him and you are with him in your supposed happy relationship, you better get ready to bear it with him. Ok, let me not sound too African. No one places any curse but the universe works with a give and take principle called ‘Karma’ for wrong doers, you better get ready to share the effects of his karma as you are building that family because justice must be served.
  You can change the gender if you want for a female; I am female so it has to be a male. What I am trying to say is, the way your partner treats other people, even his exes all point to his character. A man’s character is not formed only by the way he treats you, other people are involved. If you truly want to know his character watch the way he treats others. Don’t let the chemistry and the excitements of your love cocoon blind you. A man’s character should be what you look out for and the way he treats others especially those beneath him tells a whole lot. He can’t pretend at that time, he is what you see.  Look for it especially if you intend to walk to the altar and stay bound together forever. Is this the character you want, a chameleon? One sure thing about pet lions is that they will one day soon turn on their masters and devour them. Cheers!
